A Mapping Solution and a Sewcialist Humiliation

The Map the Sewintist project has been ongoing for about 2 months, and pins are still dropping!  I've finally discovered that there is a way to view all the pins at once, and I'd like some feedback about how it works for you.  Please take a few minutes to try this and let me know if it works or not:

See the KML button here on the map?

Click on that, and a file should open in Google Earth (I assume that you must have it already installed).  Mess around a bit with your setting to see the pins more clearly.  I had to remove all of the layers except the borders in order to see the blue pins.  It should look something like this screen grab:

Here's another image of the downtown Montreal area, with all the pins together:

Hey there Heather Lou, Shannon, Monserratt, Yet another sewing scientist.

I've already spent way too much time at work today browsing for pins in all the locations I plan to visit this year.  Please take a look!

Now, on to less successful sewing news.....Karen has had the audacity to pull my name from the Jar of Sewlutions for 2013.  C'mon!  We're only 3 months in!  *embarrassed blushing*

Needless to say, I have done nothing except fondle said silk dupioni a few times since I made the pledge to use it.  I have the pattern chosen, but that's as far as I've gotten.  I'm selfishly hoping I'm not the only one who flunks the Sewlution test in 2013!

    1. Nah, we were warned that we could be pulled at any time, but like the lottery, I expected to come up last.

  5. Ha, ha, ha! I'm sorry you were an early victim. The Keeper of the Jar is very strict and yet impossible to predict. When will she dip into the jar next...?!

  6. The image of you shaking your first in the direction of the UK made me laugh out loud in my cube. Also, thanks for putting together this epic map of sewists around the globe! It makes me feel tiny and connected all at the same time :)

    1. I have to get my shit together enough to organize a Montreal meetup, now that I see the number of people within driving distance. But I think I'm going to wait until spring when we can sit out on a terrasse and drink wine all afternoon.

  7. I love your map idea and pinned myself already. Only problem is, I had a spelling mistake in my description. So I wanted change it. Somehow I ended up having two pins now. One with and one without a spelling mistake. Whenever I log myself in, I can see all pins but mine. And I could also edit all the other pins if I wanted to. I can just see my pins when logged off. Anybody here having a similar problem and able to solve it?!

    1. My original post with instructions is here: http://anothersewingscientist.blogspot.ca/2013/02/map-sewintists-goes-live.html

I can see both of your pins on page 5. You can click the red edit button at the top of the map description, then click on the pin you want to delete. The edit box will open up and give you the option of deleting the pin.

I can do it for you if you are still having trouble. Let me know. Thanks for participating! The more the better!

    2. Thanks so much. I could do it myself with your help. Now I just have problems with the button. I'm at blogger. When I added the button to my sidebar it turned out quite large. Do you know how I can get it any smaller?
Sorry for being such a troublemaker. But I really like this project and want to support it. I'm just not the big www-brain...

    3. I'm going to plead completely useless on this one: someone else made the button for me because I had no idea how to do it and am clueless in general about html things. Maybe someone else will read this and can help????
