Well, now on to more pleasant things.
Day 8: turtle print kitenge top
Day 9: Leopard print cotton skirt
Day 9 detail: necklace by Urbandon (birthday present to myself)
Day 10: me-made necklace and kid; altered H&M dress (birthday present from my man)
Day 11: Me-made Venda skirt and kid-made chaos
Day 12: Pillowcase pendrell blouse and me-made cheese biscuits
Day 13: Pillowcase top (photographed in my falling-down barn)
Day 14: Thrifted and altered chiffon skirt. (Note the awesome Darth Vadar drawing in the background by kid #1. He did a whole series including Luke Skywalker, At-ats and At-sts.)
I'm in Cape Town for the next two weeks, so hopefully I'll remember to keep on taking photos. And in more exotic locations than my front steps and my lab!
I love the necklace you made. So so unique!
ReplyDeleteThanks - the first one is by Don (Urbandon), and the simple beaded one was made by me back in 1990 (I think?), before I was smart enough to know that there were specific beading needles that you could buy with very thin eyes.
DeleteUGH!! thanks for the mental image about airport loos, you're right it's gonna be pants tucked into boots from here on out!! judging from the plates etc on your bench, are you another micro/molecular biologist???
ReplyDeleteYeah, sorry about that...I never thought about it either, until I was on a long flight to India (14-15 hours) and was horrified to discover that the little trough that runs around the perimeter of the bathroom was OVERFLOWING! and all the lower walls were sticky (I know that urine does not harbour a lot of organisms, but still!!!!ewwww!!)
DeleteI did my grad cert. in plant molecular biology, but to paraphrase Stein, a gene is a gene is a gene, and I work with yeast models for parasite GPCRs. I'm at UCT, working on a drug discovery project.
That pillowcase Pendrell is still one of my favorite things EVER :)
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Meg. It's a bit frail and I'm afraid it may rip at an inopportune time, but I think I'll give it a few more tries.
Delete:D I had to laugh about the little side comments and the various things you made around you. Have fun in Cape Town!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I always tend to forget that the kids were my most difficult Me-Made ever: took 9 months of incubation + two years of nourishing, which is longer than any other project I've completed.
DeleteAnd I am having fun in Cape Town! photo proof to follow.
Wow, I love the "kid made mess". It made me go "ITS NOT JUST ME!".
ReplyDeleteOf course we all have a house (or at least a room) like that, and we all think that we are the only ones with a sticky mess. I remember being quite agast at the state of friends' houses before I had my own kids; I thought that they just stopped noticing the mess. Now I realize that you just have to stop caring (as much)!
