I can't make buttons, but I can use them

First of all, I have to say THANK YOU to everyone who spread the word about Mapping the Sewintists.  We have so many pins that we've spilled over onto another page, and it looks like we're about to run into a third!   >9000 hits in <3 days!  Almost 200 pins!  You guys are awesome.

OK, but the truth is that I just spent 1.5hrs of my extremely scarce me-time trying to figure out how to make a button for the Map the Sewintists project.  I know it shouldn't be that hard, and I've read through a couple of online tutorials, but I'm just going to have to admit defeat.  I have about and hour left in me before I collapse.  In the next few days I have to write and submit an abstract for this summer's American Society of Parasitologists' conference, test my new assay, prepare for my weekend meet-up in Toronto, and then pack for a 10 day spring break / work at University of South Florida combo for me and the offspring.  Whew.  I'm tired just writing about it.

Bottom line:  if there is anyone kind, handy, and time-free enough to make a button for the Map the Sewintists project, I will be forever grateful.  Put your name all over it.  Write "ha ha ha Vicki doesn't know any html" on the top.   Whatevah.  I will love you forever.

Now if you excuse me, I have a box of half-priced valentine's chocolates and the latest episode of Walking Dead with my name written all over them.  Zzzzzzzzzz.......

    1. Oh, open the link and then right click and save the photo to your desktop. Then you can re-post it or share it wherever! :)

    2. Hi, I've just done exactly as Rochelle said, and it works! I added an "Image" button with Rochelle's image (firstly saving the image to my laptop), then added the link to your post. Feel free to have a look if you like!

  3. About the map.
Are you aware that the map will split into pages, as more buttons is added?

I once made a map of my trips oround the world. As I added more routes I was only able to see some of them at the same time, due to the fact that google split the maps into pages.

there is a way around it, inwolving making a KML-file, which you cann embed in a page, but I haven't been able to make it work.

    Read about it here:

    1. I've never seen a google map with so many pins before, so I didn't expect this to happen (or even expect so many pinners!). I am going to try to clean things up and merge the maps as you suggest, but seriously: I'm up to my neck night now between work and kids. I'm supposed to be setting up an experiment and teaching a lab this afternoon, but here I am blogging instead! ;) I'll attack ASAP.

  5. Hi Vicki, the map is a fabulous idea! I see you are headed to USF in Tampa. We went to school there and still live in Tampa. I'll try to order up some gorgeous spring weather for you!

  6. That is great that you've received such a high response rate on the map - woohoo! Sounds like you are busy over the next few weeks. Have fun at the Toronto meet-up. I'm from Toronto but it so happens that right now I'm on a year long sabbatial in B.C. and while it's great here I'm totally bummed to be missing the meet-up.

  9. Drop a blue pin and a box will open that will allow you to type whatever you like.

If this made any sense to me at all, I would add myself to the map.

    1. I had more instructions, but people kept deleting them / messing with them and I keep having to retype them quickly, since I'm at work. Sorry if it isn't clear. All the instructions are in my original post http://anothersewingscientist.blogspot.ca/2013/02/map-sewintists-goes-live.html

  11. There's a great site called Grab My Button Code Generator too. If at sometime you want to provide people with the code to grab the button from your site Vicki it's pretty straightforward to use. http://www.mycoolrealm.com/sandbox/gbgen/

  12. Oooh forgot to say, you could save Rochelle's button to your flickr and use that as the image location in the Button Code Generator. Tempest xx

    1. Hiya - there are a few Florida bloggers I've discovered now, thanks to the map. I'm taking care of my little ones and working in Tampa this time around, but hopefully I'll be back lots and maybe a S.Fl meetup is in the cards.....
