Can we map ourselves?

I'm probably the most tech-unsavvy person with a blog, so I'm reaching out to you young'uns / techies who may know how to do this:

I've noticed that whenever a meet-up is announced, lots of people chime in and lament how far away they live, how isolated they feel, and how they wish they knew more crafty bloggers in their area.  There must be a better way for us to find each other, don't you think?

I've been toying with the idea of creating an open map on which we can pin our general locations, if we want to.  That way, whenever someone is travelling, or simply in need of a crafty meetup, we can see who is nearby.  And maybe meet some new bloggy friends right around the corner that you never knew were there.

What do you think?  Possible in google maps or google earth?  In another ap that I'm not familiar with?

Help!

  1. Google maps can be used for this. You can make a collaborative map using the info here: http://support.google.com/maps/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=144365&topic=1687289&ctx=topic And then anyone can add themselves. Feel free to email me if you want more info.

    1. Hi Shannon (yay, another Montrealer) - I've got the map created and I've sent out a few emails to bloggers I know to test it out. If all goes well, I'll post tomorrow and we can get this mapping party started. Thanks so much for the info!

    1. I know that there will probably be a cluster in S.Ca, one in London, one in NYC.....but there are probably a few other hot spots we're not aware of. This should be interesting!

  7. Yeah! This is such a good idea. I always find out too late that someone cool was nearby and then I'm moving :(

    1. Yeah, I know it :P (my co-workers might say otherwise, if my recent struggles with assay development are any indication....)

And we should really host something in Montreal. But wait until the spring when the terrases are open and we can drink outside.

  10. Ah crap. Here are the three variables people have pointed out so far: must use computer (mobile device or iPad doesn't work), must use Firefox, and must be signed into google. Did you try all those? Tech unsavvy me has run out of ideas.
