A Hollyburn Giveaway to drive the cold winter away

When your view at work looks like this:



You need a little something to improve your day.  How about a giveaway?



I received the Sewaholic Hollyburn skirt pattern just after it was released as a thank you for being a pattern tester.  Now, I thought twice about giving this away, since Tasia's company is a small one.  Should I give this away and deprive her of a sale?  

Then I realized I can act like a Sewaholic pusher:  I'll let you have this one for free, you'll become instantly addicted, and you'll have to search out more of her patterns here.  If this Hollyburn is your gateway pattern, I suggest the Pendrell for a slightly stronger hit.  Then when you've tired of the light stuff, you can move on to the Thurlow.  Laboured metaphors aside, I know you'll like this one and then buy more.


I made mine from a stiff cotton shwe shwe, but other testers have used everything from wool to lightweight blends.  I think it would work well in pretty much any apparel fabric, and probably even in quilting cotton.

Leave a comment below if you'd like to win the pattern, and tell me what fabric you'd use.  I'll keep this giveaway open to comments until 11:59pm, next Monday (January 14th, 2013).  I'll ship anywhere, but I'm going to send it surface mail, so please don't expect it to arrive on January 15th!

    Oh I've been eyeing that pattern! Count me in!
    I've got some bright cotton sateens that would be great for the spring/summer, and a lusciously soft drapey wool that's only 20 years old! (I guess it's time to use it!)

    That's a wonderful video, I love the winter scenes the way the light falls. We've had a fabulous white winter holiday this year in Ottawa, and I'm sure Montreal as well. The kids have had a blast toboganning and building forts!

      Did you guys get the "Snowmaggedon" after Christmas? We had 47cm in one day, and they finally managed to clear all the snow yesterday, at a total cost of $25-30 million. No wonder we pay the highest tax rate around! ;)

    Well that looks a little chilly...lol Well, I would make a Hollyburn skirt in wool, and then I would make another one in linen, or cotton. Thanks for the giveaway!

    How sweet! I think I would make it in a lightweight denim. And then maybe I could sneak a denim skirt like that into my work wardrobe!

      The fabric I used (shwe shwe) has the same weight as typical non-stretch denim, so that would work well.

    Denim or poplin for spring, houndstooth wool for next fall maybe? I've been quietly coveting this pattern ever since Tasia released it, but have banned myself from buying new patterns for a while. Winning a giveaway is my official loophole :)

    I would make it in Ikea cotton with houses on it. I bought it because I can't resist a 99 cents a yard sale but didn't have a pattern in mind. I think it would make a great Hollyburn.

    I have some gorgeous poplin in the colours of a peacock feather that would make a lovely Hollyburn to help me through this Aussie summer! (Thanks for the frosty pic to make me feel a bit cooler!)

    I've not tried Sewaholic patterns yet, but would love to give this a whirl. I would probably make it in linen (eventually) after a trial run from an old flowery sheet :-)

    I've made the Minoru jacket, and loved it. I'd totally love to try this skirt too, hmmm......perhaps in a wool, or wool-blend.

    I have seen soooo many great makes of Sewaholic patterns on blogs, would love to try one myself. My plan would be to make one in wool, as we will be heading into our winter months soon...

    Ooo ooo pick me pick me! That's a super cute skirt. I've been perusing Sewaholics pattern website, and I didn't even see this one! Too distracted by her jacket pattern, probably. :) I'm not entirely sure what fabric I'd make it up in, because I have so many possibilities in my stash, but possibly a piece of plaid wool I have. Or maybe that green-brown wool. Or possibly this pretty piece of heavy cotton I've had for yonks. :D

    (I like your version too. A fun print, but an overall neutral-looking bottom.)

    I feel like that would be a great pattern to dip my toes into using wool, and I would definitely have to make it in something warm enough to wear it right away! Thanks for doing the giveaway!

    Hmm... stash busting. Perhaps a brushed cotton? Or a polyester suede? I would want to see the pattern pieces laid out on a flat surface first. Though, my first try might be in some type of quilting cotton. ;)

    that's one lovely skirt.. it's freezing outside, so i'm kind of thinking some wool fabric would be lovely.. maybe in royal blue color

    Oh I've been longing to try out sewaholic patterns - maybe this is my lucky chance? Your skirt is beautiful and I like your notion that it has been tested in various fabrics! I have just gone on a wild January sales shopping spree and have a pretty little polka-dotted brown number I'd like to become a skirt for summer times (when ever they come to an area code near mine) - but I also have a thrifted wool blend which I am undecided on (have thought of making a cape, but I think the drape of the fabric would lend it-self nicely to the Hollyburn). Oh, oh, but I also have a strange tartaned olive greenish hunting style cottonlike fabric, that would be rather fun. I guess I would make the Hollyburn in any of those fabrics - isn't it just a skirt you end up living in? I seems wonderfully versatile. Hoping the pattern will be mine.

    I have a weird idea that could work well with this pattern. I want to layer silk organza, in a floral print if I can find it, over a muted menswear type plaid. I saw an indigo wool herringbone today that would also look great as a Hollyburn. I didn't buy it though because we're having a confusing swing into spring weather. I'm shocked by your icicles since we haven't even had a big snow yet, for the second winter now. Love the drape on your shwe shwe skirt!

    You've got ice and we're just digging out from a Colorado low. I think the snow is much better.
    I have a piece of brown corduroy that would make a lovely Hollyburn and I will end up buying the pattern if someone else wins. I'm working on a pair of Thurlows and a Renfrew.

    I have yet to try a Sewaholic pattern but really want to (maybe when I finish uni and get a job) so maybe this will be my entry into the Sewaholic world! I would make it in this really nice vintage tiny herringbone fabric that is a lovely aqua colour. That photo is almost impossible to believe when you live in Brisbane and winter is 20deg celsius! www.sewdarntired.blogspot.com

    I would love to win the hollyburn skirt! i could wear it with my alma top for a whole sewaholic outfit! maybe i can send some warm weather your way! it's been in the high 70s (fahrenheit) here in the middle of winter.

    I love that skirt!! It looks great the way you've styled it, too.
    That first photo is terrifying!! The weather is the main thing that keeps me from pushing to move to Canada, lol
